Community Climate Action Fund

South Dublin County Council has officially opened applications for the Community Climate Action Programme, offering local groups the chance to lead meaningful, practical climate action in their own areas.

This funding is designed to support community-driven projects that lower emissions, enhance local resilience, and make our neighbourhoods cleaner, greener, and more vibrant.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is open to not-for-profit groups based in the South Dublin County Council area, including:

  • Community groups

  • Sports clubs

  • Residents’ associations

  • Tidy Towns groups

  • Other local not-for-profit organisations

To be eligible, groups must be registered with the South Dublin Public Participation Network (PPN) and meet basic governance standards such as appropriate insurance. Only one application per organisation is allowed.

What Funding Is Available?

Groups can apply for up to €100,000, depending on the size and ambition of their project. Funding tiers include:

  • Up to €20,000 – Small projects

  • €20,000 to €50,000 – Medium projects

  • €50,000 to €100,000 – Large projects

This structure makes it possible for both grassroots initiatives and larger community projects to take part.

Project Themes

Applications must align with at least one of the programme’s five climate action themes — though projects that connect multiple themes or offer innovative solutions are strongly encouraged:

  1. Community Energy

  2. Travel

  3. Food & Waste

  4. Shopping & Recycling

  5. Local Climate & Environmental Action

What Kind of Projects Are Eligible?

The programme supports a wide range of climate actions, including:

  • Solar panels or renewable energy installations

  • Energy efficiency upgrades for community buildings

  • Biodiversity gardens and nature-based solutions

  • Repair cafés, reuse hubs or local circular economy initiatives

  • Waste reduction and recycling projects

  • Community workshops, education events and awareness campaigns

Previous rounds have funded solar PV systems, heat pumps, biodigesters, community recycling initiatives and more.
