Greenhills Park – Part 8 Proposal

South Dublin County Council has published a Part 8 planning application for a new sports facility in Greenhills Park, Dublin 12. Below is a very short synopsis of the proposal based on the documents uploaded on the SDCC consultation portal.
What is Proposed?
A full-size 3G synthetic turf pitch (approx. 145m × 100m).
Perimeter fencing (4.5m) and ball-stop netting (up to 13m).
6 LED floodlight columns (21.3m high).
A new single-storey pavilion (108 m²) with changing rooms, storage, plant room, and WCs.
Realigned footpath, CCTV, goal storage, and maintenance access.
Drainage system with SuDS attenuation (sustainable urban drainage).
Landscaping and tree planting (8 trees removed, replanting proposed).
Environmental & Technical Studies
Tree Survey – 8 trees to be removed, replanting included.
Ecological Impact Assessments – common bird and mammal use noted; mitigation planned (lighting design, planting, timing restrictions).
Bird & Badger Surveys – no significant impacts recorded; no badger setts in pitch area.
Flood Risk Assessment – site not at risk of tidal/fluvial flooding; low pluvial risk.
EIA & AA Screening – full Environmental Impact Assessment not required; no significant effects on European conservation sites predicted.
Why Now?
SDCC highlights the project as part of its sports provision strategy, aiming to enhance access for GAA, soccer, rugby and community use.
It aligns with Project Ireland 2040 and national investment in sports and recreation.
How Can You Have Your Say?
This is a Part 8 planning process – meaning the public can make submissions and observations.
Submissions can be made online via the SDCC consultation portal or in writing.
Closing date: 30th of October 2025
Alongside the online consultation, the Council is hosting two Public Information Evenings in the main lobby of County Hall, Tallaght:
Tuesday 30th September, 5–7pm
Tuesday 7th October, 5–7pm

This is the stage where local residents, clubs, and park users can review the plans and give their input, whether supportive, raising concerns, or suggesting improvements.
