BusConnects F1 Route Launch: Tallaght to City Centre via Templeogue & Firhouse

As part of the major BusConnects redesign of Dublin’s public transport network, the new F1 bus route aims to provide a direct, high-frequency service from Tallaght to the city centre, continuing onward to Finglas. Serving communities along Firhouse Road, Templeogue, and Harold’s Cross, the F1 design aim is to make cross-city travel simpler, faster, and more reliable — with planned 24-hour service and upgraded infrastructure to support it.
The F1 route is part of the new BusConnects F-Spine, offering a high-frequency cross-city bus service from Tallaght to Finglas, travelling through Firhouse, Templeogue, Kimmage, and the City Centre.
📍 Route Overview
Start: Tallaght Square
Via: Firhouse Road, Cypress Grove, Templeogue, Harold’s Cross, City Centre
End: Finglas (Charlestown)
Replaces: Route 49 (and parts of 54A)
🕒 Frequency & Hours
Every 10–15 minutes during the day (7am to 11pm)
Planned 24-hour service, with late-night buses every 30–60 minutes
7 days a week, including evenings and weekends

Direct link from Tallaght to the City Centre without transfers
Improved access to key destinations like Templeogue Village, Camden Street, and O’Connell Street
Faster journeys thanks to new bus lanes and traffic signal priority
Modernised bus stops with shelters and real-time passenger information
🛠️ Infrastructure Upgrades
The F1 will be supported by major improvements along its corridor:
Bus priority lanes on Templeogue Road and Kimmage Road
Junction upgrades and new cycle paths
Enhanced pedestrian access and safety features
👥 Designed with Community Feedback
During public consultation, local residents in Tallaght, Firhouse, and Templeogue called for:
A direct bus to the city centre
Increased evening and weekend services
Retaining connections to Tallaght Hospital and The Square
These requests helped shape the final F1 route and its extended hours of service.
