The BusConnects redesign is bringing two new routes to Dublin South-West: the F2 and F3. The aim is to create high-frequency services and will link areas like Spawell, Templeogue, Perrystown, Greenhills, and Walkinstown directly to the city centre, with faster journeys, simpler routes, and planned 24-hour operation. Designed in response to community feedback, both routes aim to make daily commuting — and late-night travel — more convenient, reliable, and accessible.
📍 Route Overviews
F2 Route
Start: Spawell Roundabout (Templeogue/Perrystown)
Via: Whitehall Road, Templeville Road, Kimmage, Harold’s Cross
End: Finglas (via city centre)
Replaces: Parts of 15A and 150
F3 Route
Start: Greenhills College (Tymon)
Via: Walkinstown, Cromwellsfort Rd, Kimmage, Harold’s Cross
End: Finglas (via city centre)
Replaces: Route 9 and parts of 54A
🕒 Frequency & Hours
Every 10–15 minutes during the day (7am to 11pm)
Planned 24-hour service, with overnight buses every 30–60 minutes
Full 7-day service, including evenings and weekends
🚏 Stated Aims & Key Benefits
Direct, cross-city service from Perrystown, Templeogue, Greenhills, and Walkinstown
Replaces infrequent or indirect legacy routes
No need to transfer for most trips to the city centre
Significantly improved late-night and weekend access
Connects to other spine and orbital routes for better local mobility
🛠️ Infrastructure Upgrades
F2 and F3 routes will be supported by improvements including:
Bus lanes and traffic signal priority on Templeogue Road, Whitehall Road, and Kimmage Road
New shelters and real-time info displays at major stops
Safer pedestrian crossings and improved cycle lanes
Proposed interchange upgrades at Spawell and Walkinstown
👥 Designed with Community Feedback
Residents of Rossmore, Templeville, Orwell, Perrystown, Greenhills, and Limekiln raised concerns about maintaining local coverage, late-night access, and school/work connections. As a result:
F2 was extended to Spawell to preserve coverage for Rossmore and Templeogue
F3 maintains direct service to Greenhills and Walkinstown, replacing route 9 with greater frequency
New local routes (e.g., Route 15 and L89) will support neighbourhood links
📅 When Are They Launching?
Latest indications are that the route will launch on or around the 19th October.
